To celebrate Christmas this year, we didn’t want to just get drunk and be silly at a standard office party. So instead, we found our inner elves for a great cause, raising £288 for the Alzheimer’s Society as part of their Elf Day campaign. Each member of our team has their own experience with dementia, so raising money to help fight against the disease is a cause close to all our hearts, and a worthy reason to get a bit silly for our Christmas party! Our aim was not only to spread Christmas cheer, but to also spread awareness about Alzheimer’s too and do our bit as Santa’s little helpers.
When Dan found out about the Elf Day event, he jumped at the chance to dress up for a good cause. But while he and Helen are generally more than happy for any excuse to put on a costume, Lou, Nikhil, and Rebecca weren’t quite as keen! After all, it does push their job descriptions to the limit. So it only seem fair that the staff were sponsored for being persuaded to don their Elf outfits, while Dan offered to double whatever was raised through the sponsorship.
For the occasion we brought our inner elves to the Escape Reality in Leicester for a festive bank job. In our elvish outfits, the challenge was to steal a diamond from a secure vault in under an hour. We’re happy to say that we succeeded, with 5 minutes left on the clock!
On top of that, we reached our fundraising goal, where the Colab crew ended up raising a grand total of £144 through sponsorship, doubled to £288 by Dan’s contribution.
£116 will pay for a carer of someone with dementia to attend support sessions for a month, where they can share experiences and practical tips with other carers – and, most importantly, know they’re not alone.
We know this isn’t going to chance the world, but we’re proud of our efforts, especially with us only being a young start-up company.
Here’s a thank-you video from Alzheimer’s Research, about how they’re using the money raised in this year’s fundraiser, in the fight against the disease.
