In 2020, Co.lab collaboratively created a series of 13 sector specific videos as well as labour market information videos which worked in harmony with the Leicester Careers Hub’s ‘WoW’ brochure and other learning resources.
Leicestershire Careers Hub knew that to keep local talent in the region, they needed to bridge the gap between education and industry. Schools were asking for a better way to bring the local job market to life, helping students, teachers, and parents understand the skills needed and the exciting industries ready to welcome them.
Their main aim was to create videos that would help support young people and teachers to understand more about local sectors and employability within Leicester and Leicestershire.
The crux of this programme is multi-fold: to emphasise the incredible opportunities that the region has to offer, while offering a vital pipeline for students to embrace those opportunities. It’s a programme built on collaboration and learning.
Co.lab was commissioned to create multiple videos for this series which were 3-6 minutes in length. All videos were well-prepared through scripting and pre-production, to ensure consistent quality across multiple sectors.
We knew that authentic stories were the answer. In close collaboration with the Careers Hub, we co-created the ‘World of Work’ video series – a dynamic library of resources designed to inspire. We put local young people and industry leaders on camera, sharing their real-world experiences and sector-specific insights.
Using a blend of green-screen filming, vibrant motion graphics, and authentic stories, we transformed complex labour market information into captivating, easy-to-digest videos. We created a trusted, high-quality resource that could be used in the classroom or accessed by a student exploring their future at home.
The video series has now been distributed on the Career’s Hub page on Leicester Careers Hub website and shared to multiple schools and colleges. This expands young people’s insight into future employment opportunities available to them in their local community.
The ‘World of Work’ series has become an essential tool in schools and colleges across Leicestershire, putting vital careers information directly into the hands of young people, educators, and families. These videos are breaking down barriers, making it simple for students to navigate their future career paths and discover the potential within their local community.
In collaboration with Leicester Careers Hub, Co.lab also produced Live, Learn and Earn, Creative & Digital and STEM Challenge. These videos fulfilled the goals outlined from the outset: to produce informative videos that captured the heart of Leicester Careers Hub and the employment opportunities available in the region to retain talent and empower young people.
The success of our initial collaboration has blossomed into a long-lasting partnership, leading to multiple projects that continue to empower and retain the region’s young talent.
