How WebinArt turned creative careers into clickable, online learning gold

How do you give early-career artists the skills to build a real business? WebinArt, a digital-first initiative from Creative Leicestershire, created a vibrant online learning platform that brought expert advice and a supportive community right to their screens.

What needed to change

Creative Leicestershire wanted to help the region’s emerging artists and makers go from “practicing” to “professional”.

They knew that to succeed, creatives needed real-world skills and community support, but the usual barriers of cost, travel, and time often stood in the way. The goal was to build an inclusive, flexible digital programme to bridge that gap.

The Co.lab way

We didn’t just want to build a platform; we wanted to help shape a community where creativity could thrive online. We worked with Creative Leicestershire to launch the WebinArt pilot, a bold mix of live webinars, mentoring, and an accessible online learning hub. The programme included:

Our Approach:

  • Live Webinar Series: 12 interactive online workshops hosted by industry experts, streamed to creatives from their own homes.
  • Masterclass Interviews: 6 deep-dive video conversations with internationally renowned artists, balancing inspiration with actionable advice.
  • Tech with Personality: We introduced a Learning Management System (via Teachable) to house all recorded content, ensuring easy, on-demand access post-event.
  • Community-First Strategy: Every live event fostered real-time chat, Q&As, and creative connection, replicating the buzz of a real-world workshop online.

The difference it made

Launched as a pilot in 2017, WebinArt has evolved into a major resource for creatives in Leicestershire, supporting over 60 artists through the full programme. It’s a shining example of what happens when technology and talent come together to build a community that helps people thrive.

“Dan’s always looking for how something can be made better, which made me think more creatively about how WebinArt could work. If you want to make something high quality and have a good time doing it—Colab are perfect.”Catherine Rogers, Creative Leicestershire
