Breaking the Chains in Neurodiverse Education

A trailblazer in supporting neurodivergent young people, Pathways joined forces with Co.lab to create an innovative video storytelling work experience programme. Together, we produced a documentary that empowered participants to tell their story.

The Challenge - Breaking Barriers for Neurodivergent Students

Pathways identified a significant challenge: neurodivergent students often face confidence and systemic barriers that hinder their education and career pathways. Many lack the support and platforms to showcase their unique strengths and superpowers. These challenges directly impact students’ ability to achieve qualifications and access fulfilling careers.

The Solution

Hands-On Learning: Students took the lead as executive producers, creating a documentary that explored the barriers and opportunities they face.
Authentic Voices: By listening to young people like Jasmine and Kai, the project evolved into a raw, honest exploration of their lived experiences.
Supportive Framework: ND Pathways provided the crucial network of educators, support workers, and mentors to ensure every participant felt empowered.

The Outcome

Personal Growth: Jasmine, once too anxious to join the studio, became a confident advocate, sharing her story with educational leaders.
Broad Reach: The documentary continues to inspire educators, policy-makers, and communities, driving discussions on inclusivity and systemic change.
Enduring Impact: The project’s success sparked Pathways ‘Part Two’, focusing on transitions into post-16 education and careers.

From the beginning, we could tell that this was important to do, and it was important to help the incredible work of Pathways find its audience.
